The tie between Young Boys and Ajax is all but decided after the first leg in Amsterdam. The Swiss champions managed to keep the Dutch heavyweights at bay until the hour-mark, but De Godenzonen made a massive difference in the tie by netting three goals in the last 30 minutes.
Ajax have thus done a huge job in the first match and their rivals need a true miracle to annul a three-goal deficit in the reverse fixture scheduled for this Thursday evening at Stadion Wankdorf in Bern.
De Godenzonen are among the top five favourites to win the competition and they have confirmed such role seven days ago at Johan Cruijff Arena.
The team led by Erik ten Hag will enter the second leg in even higher spirits. They’ve increased the gap at the top of the Dutch Eredivisie standings thanks to an easy 0-2 victory away at PEC Zwolle on Sunday afternoon. On the same day PSV drew 1-1 to Feyenoord, leaving de Godenzonen eight points clear at the top of the ladder.
This will only be the second head to head meeting between the two teams.

Ten Hag’s troops demonstrated the gulf in quality between them and Young Boys seven days ago and we can hardly expect a much different scenario in the reverse game on Swiss soil.
Young Boys have all but secured the title in their domestic league where they have a 17-point cushion on the second-placed Servette despite not winning any of their last four matches there.
Gerardo Seoane can be worried about his team’s recent defensive performances. Young Boys have shipped two goals in the weekend’s away draw at St. Gallen. They have not kept a clean sheet in five subsequent games in all competitions.
