Wolfsburg vs Augsburg
German Bundesliga
Date: 1 April 2023, Saturday
Kick-off at 14:30 UK / 15:30 CET
Venue: VOLKSWAGEN ARENA (Wolfsburg).
Augsburg missed a big chance to clinch a victory in a massive six-pointer against Schalke 04 before the international break.
They had a lead through Arne Maier but Bosnian striker Ermedin Demirovic got sent off just two minutes after the opening goal (midway through the second half).
Although Augsburg’s back line initially offered decent resistance, they were forced to capitulate in the third minute of added time in what ended as a 1-1 stalemate.
Augsburg are now still on a fair distance from the red zone (seven points away) but the job is by no means finished, especially not with Demirovic’s three-game ban.
Enrico Maasen’s men will face a very tough challenge in the 26th round clash against Wolfsburg on Saturday at VOLKSWAGEN ARENA.
The Wolves will enter the tie in much higher spirits after a strong defensive showing in the 0-1 road win over the rock-bottomed Stuttgart two weeks ago.
Wolfsburg are unbeaten in four straight league outings and they have climbed to the seventh position in the table as a consequence.
We like Wolfsburg’s chances here knowing that Augsburg have been dreadful travelers so far in the season, losing 8 of 12 league fixtures away from home this term.
Augsburg took just one point from the previous eight away games in the Bundesliga. They have conceded at least two goals in each of the last nine matches on the road in the league. They also allowed three or more goals in four of the previous five away outings.
We do not need anything else to go for the home win pick at the 1.60 odds, especially since Wolfsburg will go into this encouraged after recent successes. You can alternatively back the hosts to keep a clean sheet at the 2.50 odds.
