Steffen Schmidt - August 11, 2023
Westerlo vs Gent
Belgian First Division A
Date: 13 August 2023, Sunday
Kick-off at 18:15 UK / 19:15 CET
Venue: Het Kuipje (Westerlo).
Gent continued their perfect start to the new season on Wednesday night when they bagged five unanswered goals past Polish side Pogon Szczecin in the first leg of the UEFA Conference League third qualifying round.
They have thus all but secured the playoffs of the competition and they can fully focus on maintaining the perfect run in the domestic league.
Hein Vanhaezebrouck’s men travel to Het Kuipje on Sunday night to battle Westerlo in the last match of Gameweek No 3 in First Division A.
Gent had earlier picked up two separate narrow wins over Kortrijk (3-2 at home) and Mechelen (0-1 on the road).
They have a pair of surreal strikers in the shape of Gift Emmanuel Orban and Hugo Cuypers.
Orban completed a hat-trick on Wednesday night against Pogon, while his attacking comrade added two goals on the occasion.
This duo is also responsible for Gent’s league goals in the opening two rounds of the season as well. We can only expect them to prolong their scintillating run of form on Sunday at Het Kuipje.
Westerlo, on the other side, collected one point from the inaugural two rounds of the new season.
They clearly have issues with the lack of defensive meticulousness these days. The team led by Jonas de Roeck can be happy to have only allowed one goal last weekend against Club Brugge (only thanks to their keeper’s phenomenal display).
The hosts haven’t keep a clean sheet in any of six outings this summer, conceding at least two goals in four of these in the process.
Gent are averaging five goals per game in UEFA Conference League this summer after three games against Zilina (twice) and Pogon Szczecin. They are firing on all cylinders and their attacking line should have too much here for Westerlo.
You can back Gent to win & Over 2.5 goals FT bet at the 2.75 odds while we will also take the 2.30 odds for the red-hot Gift Emmanuel Orban to score anytime for the visitors.
