Steffen Schmidt - February 9, 2023
West Ham vs Chelsea
English Premier League
Date: 11 February 2023, Saturday
Kick-off at 12:30 UK / 13:30 CET
Venue: London Stadium (London).
Small London derby will open Matchday No 23 in the Premier League as West Ham host Chelsea on Saturday afternoon at London Stadium.
The Hammers managed to escape the red zone after claiming four points in the previous two league rounds.
They have conceded just one goal in the process. Head coach David Moyes can be satisfied with the improvements in his side’s defensive efforts in the last couple of weeks.
If we count all competitions, the Hammers shipped just two goals in the last five outings.
They have limited the fourth-placed Newcastle to just two shots on target in a 1-1 stalemate last weekend at St. James’ Park. Lucas Paqueta scored the only West Ham goal on the occasion.
David Moyes’ men will like their chances of keeping things quiet at the back in this matchup against Chelsea who have found the back of the net only twice in the previous six outings across competitions.
Graham Potter obviously needs some time to bed in all of the new arrivals and some of the team’s stars looked confused on the pitch last Friday in a goalless draw to Fulham.
It was the second consecutive goalless draw for Chelsea who have kept their net untouched in three successive Premier League affairs.
Can the Blues maintain their fine defensive form and make it four subsequent clean sheets after the short trip to London Stadium?
Both West Ham and Chelsea have done very well defensively in the recent games and we can’t quite expect a goal fest when they come across each other at London Stadium.
We will thus take the Under 1.5 goals FT pick as the main betting option at the 3.20 odds. The braver tipsters can back West Ham to win 1-0 at the 10.00 odds.
