Watford vs Wigan Prediction & Match Preview

Steffen Schmidt - March 16, 2023

Watford vs Wigan
English Championship
Date: 18 March 2023, Saturday
Kick-off at 15:00 UK / 16:00 CET
Venue: Vicarage Road (Watford).

Chris Wilder celebrated his first win as a Watford head coach in his second game in charge as the Hornets dispatched Birmingham 3-0 on Tuesday evening.

It was not as one-sided affair as the final score may suggest but Watford did manage to snatch an important three-pointer to rejoin the battle for the promotional playoffs.

The Hornets are now 10th in the league ladder with four points between them and Blackburn Rovers in sixth place.

Wilder was thrilled with a strong attacking showing from his troops on Tuesday. Three goals in Birmingham’s net will no doubts boost the spirits in Watford’s dressing room, especially after the Hornets had failed to find the back of the net in three successive league affairs beforehand.

Watford will have a nice opportunity to back up the midweek’s win on Saturday afternoon when they play host to relegation-threatened Wigan at Vicarage Road Stadium.

The visitors are now second from bottom in the league table after holding Coventry to a 1-1 draw four days ago at the DW Stadium.

The Latics did not offer much in the final third on the occasion. Their lone goal was scored by Coventry’s player and it was the only goal Wigan have bagged in the last three league outings.

Watford vs Wigan Head-to-head

  • Wigan will also play against tradition here because they will enter this tie off the back of three consecutive defeats in the clashes with the Hornets.
  • Wigan have never celebrated a win at Vicarage Road where they lost and drew three games apiece historically.
  • Just two of the last seven head to head matches between these counterparts provided three or more goals.

Watford vs Wigan Prediction

Wigan are winless in the last 14 away games in all competitions. They have not been pulling up any trees of late and we see this match as an ideal chance for Chris Wilder’s Watford to claim important three points.

The home win is paid at the 1.66 odds. We will also back Watford to keep a clean sheet at the 2.10 odds knowing the Latics have scored just one goal in the previous five Championship games on the road.

Watford vs Wigan Betting Tips

  • Watford to win @ 1.66 (4/6)
  • Watford to keep a clean sheet @ 2.10 (11/10) odd.
