Verona vs Roma Prediction & Match Preview

Steffen Schmidt - August 24, 2023

Verona vs AS Roma
Italian Serie A
Date: 26 August 2023, Saturday
Kick-off at 19:45 UK / 20:45 CET
Venue: Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi (Verona).

Roma did not get the start they wanted, playing only a 2-2 stalemate on the opening day of the 2023/24 Serie A campaign in the home fixture with Salernitana.

Veteran Antonio Candreva proved fatal to Jose Mourinho and his troops as he completed a brace last weekend in the capital.

Mourinho can feel unlucky with such an outcome as Roma were indeed the dominant side in the game. La Lupa allowed just three shots in total in the 90 minutes of play and yet they conceded two goals on the occasion.

One major positive for Mourinho to take from the opening round’s fixture was the performance of Andrea Belotti.

The former Torino star completed a brace in the first game of the season, announcing a strong campaign in Roma’s shirt this time around.

Roma will now be up against Verona in what will represent a tricky schedule for Mourinho and his troops on Saturday night in Gameweek No 2.

Verona started the season in a great fashion under new manager Marco Baroni. They eliminated Ascoli in the opening round of Coppa Italia via a 3-1 victory at Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi before beating Empoli 0-1 on the road at the start of the new league campaign.

It is a fantastic start for Verona who had to play the relegation playoffs clash against Spezia to avoid the drop to Serie B football in June this year.

Verona vs AS Roma Head-to-head

  • Roma claimed two separate wins over Verona in the previous term of Serie A, bagging three goals past Verona on the previous visit to Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi.
  • Overall, La Lupa have 15 wins, 6 draws, and just 3 defeats in the last 24 clashes against Verona.
  • The Over 2.5 goals FT & Both Teams To Score pick landed in four of the previous five head to head matches between these rivals.

Verona vs AS Roma Prediction

Verona’s back line did not look great in preseason as the team allowed three goals in each of the back-to-back defeats to Bastia and Heidenheim earlier this summer. Roma are desperate to bounce back after the opening round’s slip-up.

The away win is our main betting option at the 1.83 odds while we also fancy the attractive 3.40 odds for the in-form Andrea Belotti to score anytime for the visitors, following his brace in the first round against Salernitana.

Verona vs AS Roma Betting Tips

  • AS Roma to win @ 1.83 (5/6)
  • Andrea Belotti to score anytime @ 3.40 (12/5) odd.
