United States will begin their 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup adventure on Sunday evening when they play host to Haiti at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City.

United States celebrated a huge 3-2 victory over bitter rivals Mexico in the final of the inaugural Concacaf Nations League edition this summer.

Giovanni Reyna, Weston McKennie, and Christian Pulisic were on target on the occasion, guiding the USMNT towards a massive success.

None of them will, however, feature the Gold Cup as the head coach Gregg Berhalter decided to provide the MLS-based talent a chance to shine and earn regular call-ups for the national team moving forward (particularly with the final round of the World Cup qualifications coming up in September).

So, out of 23 American players submitted for this tournament, 19 earn their living in the MLS. The list includes experienced keeper Brad Guzan (Atlanta United), midfielder Kellyn Acosta (Colorado Rapids), attacking midfielder Paul Arriola (DC United) and striker Gyasi Zardes (Columbus Crew).

Even this American team should face no troubles going out of Group B, alongside Canada, Martinique, and Haiti.

Their first rivals, Haiti, had to play the special qualification playoffs to earn their spot at this edition of the Concacaf Gold Cup.

They stormed past St. Vincent / Grenadines and Bermuda there, bagging ten goals in the process.

However, Haiti experienced a massive disappointment in the second round of the Concacaf World Cup qualifications when they fell 0-4 on aggregate to Canada.

• United States only lead this tie by a couple of wins going into the 13th clash against Haiti.
• Haiti are winless in the last five meetings with the United States, though.
• United States celebrated a narrow 1-0 victory when these two sides last met each other (group phase of the 2015 Concacaf Gold Cup).

The bookmakers also see the United States as massive favorites ahead of this tie. Nevertheless, we should not forget the fact that Haiti came third at the previous Gold Cup edition, forcing Mexico to extra-time in the semi-final along the way.

Haiti have a couple of very interesting forwards in the likes of Frantzdy Pierrot and Duckens Nazon. They both play in Europe, for Guingamp and Sint-Truiden respectively. We would not be surprised to see one of them on the scoreline here on the opening day. This is why we see a nice value in backing goals at both ends at the odds of 2.20.
