Uruguay vs Venezuela
World Cup Qualification – CONMEBOL
Date: Tuesday, 1 February 2022
Kick-off at 23:00 UK/ 00:00 CET
Venue: Estadio Centenario.
Venezuela are unofficially out of contention for the World Cup. They still do have a mathematical chance to make it to Qatar, but it will be over soon in the next 1-2 match-days.
They are placed bottom-most in the table, and have easily been the worst in the CONMEBOL region this time around. They are on a long losing streak at the moment, and they have also conceded the most number of goals of all the teams in the Qualifiers.
Meanwhile, the Uruguayans have not had a pretty smooth sail as well. However, they have managed to climb to the fourth position, and the last game week they delivered a much-needed win. This would obviously add to their confidence.
With just three more game weeks remaining for them, the team would desperately try to hang on to this spot. Count on them to make good use of this fixture – they are at home, against the absolute worst team in the tournament.
Uruguay registered a 0-1 win on the road the past game week, against Paraguay. They have also lost just twice at home all through these Qualifiers, and the two defeats had come against Brazil and Argentina.
As of now, they are placed fourth in the table, with a lead of two points. And since the fifth-placed Colombia are pitted against the sixth-placed Peru next, this is an opportunity for the team to improve their position in the top-most tier.
On the other hand, Venezuela lost 1-2 at home the past game week, against Peru. They are also on a three-game losing streak, and had lost eight of their former nine matches. Note that they had also lost eight of their previous nine road trips.
Taking into consideration these stats, and the h2h superiority of two-time world champions Uruguay, expect a win for them this Tuesday.
