Uruguay vs Argentina
World Cup Qualification – South America
Date: Friday, 12 November 2021
Kick-off at 23:00 UK
Venue: Estadio Campeon del Siglo.
Uruguay’s back line looked terrible against both Argentina and Brazil in the last two matches. We expect Lionel Messi & company to fully exploit the Uruguayan defensive holes and pick up an easy victory on Friday evening in Montevideo.
Overall, Argentina have been much more successful in the recent history of this matchup, winning 13, drawing 3, and losing just 4 of the last 20 meetings with Uruguay.
Nevertheless, Argentina won only one of the last six away clashes with Uruguay.
None of the last five competitive head to head encounters between these two teams saw goals scored at both ends.
Uruguay conceded seven goals in the last two matches against Argentina and Brazil. They are about to take on Argentina once again on Friday evening in what will be the last fixture of the 13th round in the South American World Cup Qualification campaign.
There is not much to suggest a better scenario for the Uruguayans going into this return fixture with Los Gauchos.
The team led by Oscar Tabarez allowed as many as 10 shots on target against the Argentineans and 13 attempts on target against the Brazilians last month.
They did little to hurt the rivals’ back lines at the same time. The team scored only one goal in the last three qualification affairs.
Argentina will enter the match in much higher spirits, following back-to-back clean-sheet wins over Uruguay and Peru.
Luis Scaloni’s troops have done very well defensively of late, allowing no goals in any of the last four qualifiers.
Argentina have shipped just 6 goals in 11 World Cup Qualification matches so far. They seem to have found the right momentum after the much-needed Copa America trophy this summer.
