Turkey vs Moldova
International Friendlies,
Thursday, 3 June 2021
Kick-off 18:00 UK/ 19:00 CET
Venue: Benteler-Arena.
Turkey will face Moldova in their last warm-up before the start to the EURO 2020 and the clash against Italy next Friday.
Turkey have been one of the most active teams this spring as this will be their third pre-EURO friendly in just seven days.
The last of these three friendlies is scheduled for Thursday afternoon on the neutral venue of the Benteler-Arena in Paderborn, Germany.
We can expect Senol Gunes to send his strongest squad on the pitch as this will be his team’s last check before next Friday’s game against Italy at the start of the European Championship.
Turkey have been scoring goals for fun this year and we would not be surprised to see them nicking several past the poor defense of Moldova’s here either.
As a matter of fact, Turkey bagged a massive ten-goal tally in three matches at the start to the 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign.
It is a superb record if we know they’ve played the likes of the Netherlands (a 4-2 win) and Norway (a 0-3 win) in the process.
However, the team’s defense has not quite been at the highest level possible since the team allowed at least two goals in six of the last eight games in all tournaments.
Turkey were thus relegated from the League B of the UEFA Nations League after finishing Group 3 at the very foot of the standings (behind Hungary, Russia, and Serbia).
Moldova are an ideal opposition for Turkey at this stage. They are winless in 19 subsequent outings across tournaments. They conceded as many as 12 goals in the last two defeats to Denmark (8-0) and Israel (1-4) at the beginning of the World Cup Qualifications.
Senol Gunes will likely send his strongest squad on the pitch here and we expect Turkey to storm past their rivals and thus boost up the momentum ahead of the EURO 2020 opener against Italy.
