Sweden vs Greece
World Cup Qualification – Europe
Date: Tuesday, 12 October 2021
Kick-off at 19:45 UK / 20:45 CET
Venue: Friends Arena.
Sweden have been at a higher level than Greece in the last decade or so. They also left a strong impression at this summer’s Euro whereas the Greeks have failed to qualify for the tournament at all.
Janne Andersson’s men rarely drop points at home, they still have a perfect home record in this qualifying term, and we can’t predict anything else but a home win here.
Sweden host Greece in what could prove to be a crucial World Cup qualifier for both sides on Tuesday evening in Solna. Both teams snatched clean-sheet wins at the weekend and will come into this on a high.
Sweden are in a somewhat better position, sitting one point above the Greeks in the battle for the second place in Group B. A win here would likely send the Swedes to the playoffs at least given they have an away game against Georgia upcoming next month.
Sweden will rely on their tremendous home form as they’ve been impeccable in front of the home crowd so far in this campaign. Janne Andersson’s troops have won all three home fixtures so far, including the clash against Spain (2-1) last month.
They have only conceded three goals in five World Cup qualifiers and we fancy their chances of keeping the modest attacking line of the Greeks at bay here.
Greece struggled badly to break the deadlock against the Georgians on Saturday, but they eventually made it count through a penalty-kick goal from Anastasios Bakasetas as late as in the 90th minute of the affair.
The Greeks are the only undefeated team in Group B, but they drew three of their five matches so far.
