Spartak Trnava made a big upset by eliminating the likes of Lech Poznan in the UEFA Conference League third qualifying round with a 3-1 victory in the reverse outing played six days ago on Slovakian soil.
They now have a realistic opportunity to make it to the group stage of the competition which would be the first group-phase appearance in any continental campaign for the Trnava outfit since the 2018/19 season when they featured the Europa League Group D.
Spartak will go into this tie in the highest of spirits after back-to-back great performances within the previous six days.
They overcame a one-goal deficit from the first leg of the previous round’s clash against Lech Poznan before beating Podbrezova in a very difficult domestic league match on Sunday.
Podbrezova came to visit the CITY ARENA with an impeccable record of three wins in three games but Spartak Trnava inflicted the first loss of the season for their counterparts, celebrating a 2-0 victory three days ago.
The story is completely opposite with Dnipro-1 who have suffered easy eliminations to the likes of Panathinaikos in the UEFA Champions League second qualifying round and Slavia Prague in the UEFA Europa League third qualifying round this summer.
The fact that Oleksandr Kucher’s men have allowed five goals in each of the two double-headers in Europe this summer means we can expect a lot of room for Spartak’s attacking-minded players on Wednesday.
On top of poor European form, Dnipro-1 took just one point from the previous two domestic league games, a run that includes a 1-2 defeat to Obolon’ Kyiv on Sunday. The visitors have failed to score more than three goals in the last four games across competitions.
