Substitutes made the difference for both Southampton and Norwich in their respective opening round wins over Sheffield Wednesday and Hull City.

Southampton marked the return to the Championship football after more than a decade of a top-flight spell with a 1-2 road win over Sheffield Wednesday at the Hillsborough.

The Saints controlled the happening on the pitch from the start to the end, keeping the ball possession and creating bountiful chances on the occasion.

They eventually made it count via a late Che Adams goal on James Ward-Prowse assist. They will be hoping to back up the inaugural win on Saturday afternoon when Norwich come to visit St. Mary’s Stadium in Gameweek No 2.

The visitors were even more dominant in their clash against Hull City last weekend. They did concede an early goal against the run of play but still showed spirits and quality to crawl their way back and eventually win via a late stoppage-time goal from Adam Idah.

David Wagner’s men thus continued their fine preseason form, following an unbeaten streak of six straight exhibitions (three wins and draws apiece).

We must particularly praise Norwich’s defensive showings because the Canaries have allowed just one goal in their last four friendlies despite facing the likes of Darmstadt (the newly-promoted Bundesliga outfit, Kaiserslautern, AZ Alkmaar, and Olympiakos along the way.

We will rather opt for the Under 2.5 goals FT at the 2.00 odds as the primary betting option as well as for the Canaries to avoid a defeat at the same price-tag as an alternative.
