Steffen Schmidt - August 2, 2023
South Korea vs Germany
FIFA Women’s World Cup
Date: 3 August 2023, Thursday
Kick-off at 11:00 UK / 12:00 CET
Venue: Brisbane Stadium (Brisbane).
Germany were stunned by Colombia on Sunday in the second round of Group H and they can ill afford another slip-up on Thursday against South Korea at Brisbane Stadium.
The two-time world champions suffered a 1-2 defeat to Colombia four days ago, a scenario nobody expected after Germany’s 6-0 drubbing of Morocco on the opening day.
The team led by Martina Voss-Tecklenburg struggled with efficiency at the weekend, failing to register more than a couple shot on target despite dominating the pitch throughout most of the game.
They will be highly motivated to make amends on Thursday and there are no doubts they will get enough space to deliver the goods past the South Korean defense.
The AFC Asian Cup runners up disappointed heavily in the second round clash, failing to get more than one attempt on target in a 0-1 defeat at the hands of Morocco.
Germany demolished that same Morocco side 6-0 in their first game in the tournament, hence it is easy to see who the big favorites are ahead of this tie.
We will keep eye at veteran striker Alexandra Popp who bagged three goals in two outings so far in the competition.
Germany generally play attacking football under Voss-Tecklenburg as we have seen three or more goals in each of the last five outings they played in all competitions.
The only genuine question ahead of this game should be in regards to how many goals will end up in South Korean net on Thursday.
The difference in class is significant. When you add the motivation factor for Germany who are seeking a rebound win after the shocking loss to the Colombians in Gameweek 2, we have no other option but to back Germany to win both halves at the 2.62 odds.
We expect a goal fest as well which is why the second bet will be Germany to win & Over 2.5 goals FT at the 1.83 odds. You can also go with Alexandra Popp to score anytime at the 1.80 odds.
