Sligo Rovers vs Cork City
Irish Premier Division
Date: 15 July 2023, Saturday
Kick-off at 19:45 UK / 20:45 CET
Venue: The Showgrounds (Sligo).
Sligo Rovers and Cork City will lock horns in the lone Premier Division game on Saturday evening at The Showgrounds.
The two outfits were on the opposite ends of late dramas last Friday. Sligo conceded a 95th-minute goal to lose 2-1 at Derry City while Cork City bagged a late stoppage-time equalizer to avoid a defeat against second-placed St. Patrick’s Athletic on the same day.
Sligo Rovers have generally been struggling to catch any kind of momentum in the last couple of months.
They have only managed two wins in the last ten league fixtures, losing seven along the way. The lack of defensive meticulousness is a serious issue for head coach John Russell.
Russell’s troops have not kept a clean sheet in nine of the last ten games in the league. They even shipped two goals in the recent away loss to the rock-bottomed UC Dublin three weeks ago.
Cork City, on the other side, have drastically improved their defensive showings of late. They still own the second-worst defensive record in the league but their back line looks much more solid than it did at the start of the season.
The visitors are winless in four straight games but the performances they have shown against the likes of Dundalk, Derry City, Drogheda, and St. Patrick’s Athletic certainly call for optimism for their fans.
Cork City or draw double chance is the way to go here at the attractive 1.80 odds based on everything we have seen from these two outfits in the last couple of months.
Since this is a tight clash between two bottom-half rivals who have been struggling for goals throughout the whole season, we do like the Under 2.5 goals FT pick at the same 1.80 odds.
