Slavia Prague vs Ferencvaros
UEFA Champions Third qualifying round
Date: Tuesday, 10 August 2021
Kick-off at 18:00 UK/ 19:00 CET
Venue: Sinobo Stadium (Prague).
Slavia Prague welcome Ferencvaros on Tuesday and they need a miracle to overturn the first leg defeat.
An own goal and spot kick gave Ferencvaros a surprise 2-0 win in a game Sparta dominated possession and the attacking third.
The Hungarians are on a solid run in the Champions League qualifiers, and they have won 5 on the trot getting better of the likes of Pristina and Zalgiris.
We have also witnessed action packed games involving Ferencvaros this season, they scored 13 goals from 5 so far and conceded just 2 in return.
Slavia is a much better team than those the Hungarians met so far, but this is early part of the season leaving the Czech champions short of match fitness.
The only 2 other games Slavia played so far are in the domestic league against minnows like Teplice and Zlin and they have won both games.
Nevertheless, it is a big ask to turnaround a 2-goal deficit, Slavia’s last handicap win in the Champions League date back to 2003.
Last week’s duel was the first ever proper competitive meeting between Slavia Prague and Ferencvaros.
We might have largely under-estimated Ferencvaros, an excuse since they never looked comfortable in defense despite bagging convincing wins over minnows in the previous rounds of the qualifiers.
But they did manage to prove everyone wrong with the first leg display at Prague. The main takeaway is that the Hungarians can surprise any team on their day with their attacking movements. But they stay quiet for larger periods of the game with or without the ball. This is a reflection of the 13 goals they scored so far.
That being said, Slavia have a chance here and they could well overturn the deficit if they play their cards right. One of those is keeping things tight at the back. They will have quite a few chances with Ferencvaros not very strong in the defensive department.
Goals will come in this match, and this could happen at either ends as well. So, we are backing a high scoring affair on Tuesday with the hosts expected to bag the victory.
