FC Sheriff vs Maccabi Haifa

Sheriff Tiraspol will take on Maccabi Haifa in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League second qualifying round on Wednesday evening at Bolshaya Sportivnaya Arena.
The visitors enter this tie as the favorites, especially after strong displays in all three competitive games this summer.
Maccabi Haifa demolished Maltese champions Hamrun Spartans 6-1 on aggregate in the first qualifying round, before beating Beitar Jerusalem 3-1 in the Israeli Super Cup final on Saturday.
Frantzdy Pierrot was especially inspired against Hamrun, bagging three goals across two outings. We also have to mention the like of Dolev Haziza who contributed to his team’s success with two assists in two games.
Sheriff, on the other side, needed extra time to eliminate Romanian champions Farul Constanta in the previous round.
Amine Talal brought parity into their first qualifying round tie before the likes of Jerome Ngom Mbekeli and Peter Ademo notched extra-time goals to send the Moldovan outfit through.
Sheriff are hoping to return to the Champions League groups after skipping that phase last season, falling to Viktoria Plzen in the third qualifying round.
They played the last 16 round of Conference League last season, losing 1-4 on aggregate to Ligue 1 side Nice on the occasion.
Maccabi Haifa featured in the group stage of the Champions League last time out, though, beating Olympiacos, Apollon Limassol, and Red Star Belgrade along the way.
They even dispatched the likes of Juventus but still came fourth in a very difficult group that also included PAG and Benfica.
Both teams possess respectable European experience but Maccabi Haifa just seem to have more quality on their roster. They’ve kept most important players from last season and they look incredible this summer.
