Peter Green - July 23, 2019
Shamrock Rovers vs Apollon Limassol
Europa League Qualification
Date: Thursday, 25 July 2019
Kick-off at 20:00 UK / 21:00 CET
Venue: Tallaght Stadium (Dublin).
The hosts booked their spot in the quarterfinals after edging it past Brann in the second leg of their tie to post a 4-3 aggregate result.
The squad failed to clinch a win in the away leg where they were held to a 2-2 draw. However, they bounced back stronger at home to come back from being a goal down after the restart, to two goals up at the end of the ninety minutes.
They were the far more offensive side in that last clash as well with eight attempts at goal, half of which made the goalkeeper work.
The visitors, on the other hand, made it into the next round without any hassle, as they scored six unanswered goals against Kauno Zalgiris over the span of two legs. The away side dominated the opposition and kept the lion’s share of possession in each of their fixtures.
Their trip to Dublin will not be a walk in the park by any means, and so expect a tight run of affairs, with the win certain to not come easy for either side.
The visitors are likely to come out on top in the maiden clash with the hosts on Thursday, by not more than a narrow margin.
The hosts were not convincing in their game against Brann on home soil and clinched the win on the back of a slender one-goal advantage.
In comparison, the visitors breezed past their respective opponents with six goals and two clean sheets in the bag.
Both the sides have found the back of the net without fail in their last two ties. So, expect them to get their names on the scoresheet, without fail, while the win looks likely to swing in favor of the side from Cyprus at the last blast of the whistle.
