Steffen Schmidt - May 29, 2023
Sevilla vs Roma
UEFA Europa League
Date: 31 May 2023, Wednesday
Kick-off at 20:00 UK / 21:00 CET
Venue: Puskas Arena (Budapest).
Two proven European winners are set to clash each other in the UEFA Europa League final as Jose Mourinho takes on Sevilla on Wednesday evening at the Puskas Arena in Budapest.
Mourinho is chasing his sixth continental silverware after taking his teams to two Champions League, two Europa League, and one Conference League trophies.
The lone Conference League title came last season in the competition’s inaugural edition as the Special One helped Roma terminate a 60-year drought in terms of European titles.
Can Mourinho take the Romans all the way in the second-strongest continental competition this time around?
The Portuguese manager took Roma to the final with his famous “park the bus” formation as La Lupa failed to register a single attempt in the reverse fixture of their semifinal tie against Bayer Leverkusen on German soil.
We can expect a similar approach from the Romans on Wednesday as they will no doubts do anything to get a result here, more so because they had already lost all chances of a top-four finish in the Serie A.
Sevilla have also had a disappointing campaign in their domestic league this season but they have grown drastically in form since the arrival of Luis Mendilibar on the bench.
Los Rojiblancos have been flying high across competitions in the last couple of months. They’ve shown strength by eliminating heavyweights such as Manchester United in the quarterfinal and Juventus in the semifinal.
Sevilla are the kings of this competition as they hold a record six Europa League titles, including four trophies in the last decade. However, they are now up against Roma whom we expect to try and “kill the game” and wait for one of their stars (such as Paulo Dybala) to make the difference with a single moment of magic.
Taking everything into consideration, we feel the Under 1.5 goals FT pick should be the way to go at the 2.62 odds. We will also back draw at the half time at the 1.95 odds, expecting a very tight affair in the first half in particular.
