Serbia vs Portugal
World Cup Qualification
Date: Saturday, 27 March 2021
Kick-off at 19:45 UK/ 20:45 CET
Venue: Stadion Rajko Mitić.
The Navigators are on course to become a football superpower. They have gotten a plethora of talents in the last few years, and that too in almost every position. And the icing on the cake – these youngsters have a veteran like Cristiano Ronaldo to guide them.
The team has been one of the best clutch performers in world football in the past five-year period. Against all odds they delivered the Euro Cup, that too while beating France at their own home, with Cristiano on the sidelines due to injury.
Later, they followed it up with another trophy – by lifting the inaugural Nations League. Now, the sole medal missing from their cabinets is the World Cup.
Spirits are a bit low as they began their campaign on a rather dull note. Despite being pitted against the lowly Azerbaijan, the team had to make do with an own goal for the three points.
Still, they are in a rather easy group, with the only other elite being the Eagles – whom they take on this weekend.
Should, Fernando Santos’s men secure a win this weekend, they easily could establish their dominance in the group, and there on, qualification should be merely a formality.
Moreover, Dragan Stojkovic’s men have a poor record in recent games, and they an inferior h2h record against this rival too.
For the reasons, expect Portugal to deliver a winning performance this Saturday at the Stadion Rajko Mitić.
The Eagles recorded a 3-2 win at home the last match-day, against Ireland. In the meantime, Santos’s men registered a 1-0 win at home the past game week, against Azerbaijan.
Going on, Stojkovic’s men were winless in ten of their past twelve overall matches, and they remained so in four of their former six appearances at home.
On the other hand, their counterparts had won four of their last five matches, and had won 13 of their preceding 17 games too. Moreover, they have lost just twice on the road since 2017.
And finally, the Navigators also have a great h2h record against this opponent since 2000.
Considering these stats, expect a Portugal victory this Saturday.
