Steffen Schmidt - September 5, 2023
Serbia vs Hungary
EURO Qualifications
Date: 7 September 2023, Thursday
Kick-off at 19:45 UK / 20:45 CET
Venue: Stadion Rajko Mitic (Belgrade).
The top two teams in Group G go head to head on Thursday evening as Serbia host Hungary in the fifth round of 2024 EURO qualifications.
The outfits share the top of the group standings with two wins and a draw in three opening matches.
The teams have conceded a single goal combined along the way, courtesy of Serbia’s 1-1 stalemate away at Bulgaria in the previous round.
It was by far the worst display Dragan Stojkovic’s troops have produced so far in the campaign, earning the point only thanks to the last-gasp Darko Lazovic equalizer in the sixth minute of added time).
It is worth noting that neither Aleksandar Mitrovic nor Dusan Vlahovic were available for the Serbians on the occasion.
They are both in the squad this time around. Mitrovic has come to Belgrade in particularly high spirits after completing a hat-trick in an important win for his Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League derby against Karim Benzema’s Al-Ittihad.
Hungary, on the other side, have just one man with a double-digit number of goals in the national team’s shirt in their ranks at the moment (Roland Sallai with 10 goals).
They have, however, been very tough to break down so far in the qualifying campaign, keeping their net untouched in each of three outings against Bulgaria, Montenegro, and Hungary.
Dragan Stojkovic Piksi has a very strong squad on disposal with the likes of Aleksandar Mitrovic, Dusan Vlahovic, Dusan Tadic, Filip Kostic, Lazar Samardzic, and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic are ready to feature on Thursday.
The local fans in Belgrade will create an electric atmosphere at Red Star’s Rajko Mitic Stadion. We will back Serbia to win at the 1.70 odds while you can alternatively take Mitrovic to score anytime at the 2.05 odds.
