Scotland vs Belgium
Euro 2020 Qualification
Date: Monday, 09 September 2019
Kick off at 19:45 UK/ 20:45 CET
Venue: Hampden Park (Glasgow).
Scotland have lost all-important match against Russia at Hampden Park on Friday night, and now they are 4th in the standings with the win-draw-loss record of 2-0-3, six points behind ‘Sbornaya’ with five games left to play.
Their schedule doesn’t get easier as they will host the top ranked team in the world – Belgium on Monday. These two have met three months ago in Brussels and Roberto Martinez’s men won that game 3-0.
Belgium maintained their 100 percent record in Qualifying Group I with a 4-0 victory over lowly San Marino side. The Red Devils’ win streak is now extended to five games with an impressive goal difference of plus 14.
Now Belgium are heading to Glasgow and they’re heavy favorites to pick up another three points and keep Russia at bay, even without the injured Hazard brothers.
It surely feels like Scotland’s chances of automatic qualification for Euro 2020 are slim to none after Russia defeat. I don’t expect them to fix their wrongs against a world-class side like Belgium. If they adopt a ‘nothing to lose mentality’, we might see loads of goal-scoring opportunities.
Belgium had more than 70% of the ball possession and took 25 shots vs Scotland back in June, and I expect them to command the game at Hampden Park from the kickoff. They’re scoring three goals per match in this Qualifiers and I wouldn’t be surprised if they go on the rampage against the disheartened hosts.
