San Lorenzo will have a nice chance to advance to the last 16 round of Copa Sudamericana on Wednesday evening when they host Colombian Independiente Medellin in the second leg of the playoffs tie at Estadio Pedro Bidegain.
The Argentine outfit won the first leg seven days ago thanks to a second-half winner from their top scorer Adam Bareiro.
They had a huge help from Independiente’s midfielder Edwin Cetre who got sent off before the half-time break on the occasion.
San Lorenzo limited the rivals to zero shots on target last week. They have thus continued with marvelous defensive displays.
The team led by Ruben Insua boast by far the best defensive record in the top flight of Argentine football this season with no more than 9 goals conceded in 25 Liga Profesional matches.
They sit third in the domestic league ladder with the fewest number of defeats (three) in the competition.
San Lorenzo are also unbeaten in ten consecutive outings across competitions and they have prolonged their fine spell of form at the weekend, beating Belgrano 0-1 on the road. It was the third straight clean sheet for Insua’s troops.
The story is completely opposite with Independiente Medellin who have just terminated a four-loss streak with a 2-2 draw to La Equidad at the start of the Clausura campaign in Colombian Primera A division.
San Lorenzo play tight, defensive-minded football. Seven of the last ten games they played across competitions ended with fewer than two goals scored.
Independiente are not pulling up any trees these days. We will take the Under 2.5 goals FT as the main betting pick at the 1.60 odds while you can alternatively take the 1.83 odds for the hosts to keep a clean sheet on Wednesday.
