Croatia was supposed to take the top-most spot in the group – considering that they were runners-up of the previous world cup. However, they have begun their campaign on a losing note, and this has given further confidence to the likes of Our Guys.
Note that they too had made it till the Quarters of the 2018 World Championship, and en route they had eliminated tournament favorites, Spain.
As of now, they are placed at the top of the table, and have the best goal difference as well. However, Croatia will desperately try to make a comeback, and this lead Stanislav Cherchesov’s men experience at present is not a sure thing.
They have to deliver this weekend – and if they do so, they could build some serious momentum, which could lead to something great.
The fact that they are at home might help, as they have been performing well in such fixtures over the past few years.
Moreover, they have delivered great campaigns in Qualifiers of both the last two Euro Cups, and most importantly, they have a good h2h record against this rival at home over the years.
Meanwhile, Matjaz Kek’s men are ranked outside of the top-60 in the FIFA list, and they had failed to qualify to the 2016 as well as 2021 Euros.
Moreover, they have been included in League C so far in the UNL, and have seldom performed well on the road in the last several years.
By the looks of things, expect Russia to have the upper hand this Saturday.
Cherchesov’s men had recorded a 1-3 win on the road the last match-day, against Malta. In the meantime, Kek’s men had registered a 1-0 win at home the past game week, against Croatia.
Going on, Our Guys have lost just twice at home since March of 2018, and the two defeats had come against Sweden and Belgium. In the process, they had gone on a five-fixture winning streak, and had even recorded a 9-0 win during the while.
On the other hand, their counterparts have won just four times on the road in the past five-year period, and the wins have exclusively come against some of the worst teams in the world.
In addition, Cherchesov’s men have also been superior in h2h games over the years at home.
Considering these observations, expect a Russian win this Saturday at the Fisht Olympic Stadium.
