Romania vs Iceland
World Cup Qualification Europe
Date: Thursday, 11 November 2021
Kick-off at 19:45 UK/ 20:45 CET
Venue: Stadionul Steaua.
Romania are placed second in the table at the moment, and with just two games remaining they have the opportunity to secure this spot and progress to the second round of Qualifiers.
Their final match-up is against the dead-last placed Liechtenstein, which they should easily win.
That leaves this upcoming fixture, against Iceland this Thursday. A win in this game will practically guarantee them a ticket to the Second Round.
They are in great form, and also have a great h2h record against this rival. Meanwhile, Iceland have a poor record on the road lately, and they need massive wins in their remaining two games – which puts them under a lot of pressure.
As things stand, expect the Romanians to deliver a win at their home, over their struggling rivals.
Romania recorded a 1-0 win at home the last match-day, against Armenia. They were also unbeaten in four of their past five games, and three of these were wins.
Moreover, they had won three of their last five appearances at home, and had scored two or more goals in four of their former seven home games.
On the other hand, Iceland were winless in 13 of their past 16 matches, and in the process, they had even gone on a seven-game losing run. Do also note that they had conceded two or more goals in eight of their past ten road trips.
Taking into account these observations, as well as past h2h stats, expect a win for Romania this Thursday.
