Steffen Schmidt - February 20, 2023

Roma vs Salzburg
UEFA Europa League
Date: 23 February 2023, Thursday
Kick-off at 20:00 UK / 21:00 CET
Venue: Stadio Olimpico (Rome).

Roma will be looking to keep their Europa League adventures alive on Thursday evening when they host Salzburg in the reverse leg of their knockout phase playoffs tie.

The Austrian outfit will travel to Rome with a one-goal cushion thanks to Nicolas Capaldo whose late 88th-minute strike found the back of the net seven days ago in Austria.

The Romans were a somewhat better side on the pitch throughout the 90 minutes of play and they did not deserve a loss on the occasion.

Jose Mourinho’s men bounced back with a 1-0 victory over Hellas Verona on Sunday evening in Serie A.

It was an important victory for the Portuguese manager and his men who have thus successfully continued the battle for the top-four finish in this term of the top flight of Italian football.

Salzburg were also successful on Sunday as they eased past Tirol 1-3 on the road to stay six points clear at the top of the Austrian Bundesliga standings.

The good news for head coach Matthias Jaissle is the return of striker Benjamin Sesko who bagged one of his team’s three goals just after coming on as a second-half sub at the weekend.

Sesko and his teammates will find it very tough to produce up front here past Roma, though. Jose Mourionho has found a nice formula to help his team keep things quiet at the back of late.

This is, after all, none of the previous four games Roma played in all competitions provided three or more goals.

Roma vs Salzburg Head-to-head

  • Salzburg and Roma met each other for the first time last Thursday.
  • The Austrian outfit claimed a 1-0 victory thanks to a late winner in a match without too many goal-scoring opportunities.

Roma vs Salzburg Prediction

Roma have been very tough to break down this year. Only two of the last ten games they played in Serie A saw three or more goals scored. Based on everything we saw seven days ago in Austria, we could be in for another low-scoring scenario here.

Roma to win to nil is our primary betting option at the 2.50 odds, while you can alternatively shoot for the 2-0 correct score pick at the 7.50 odds.

Roma vs Salzburg Betting Tips

  • Roma to win to nil @ 2.50 (6/4)
  • Correct Score: Roma 2-0 @ 7.50 (13/2) odd.
