Roma vs Ajax Prediction & Match Preview

Steffen Schmidt - April 13, 2021

Roma vs Ajax
UEFA Europa League
Date: Thursday, 15 April 2021
Kick-Off at 20.00 UK
Venue: Stadio Olimpico, Rome.

Roma somehow managed to pull off a surprising result from the first leg of the UEFA Europa League quarter-final against Ajax. They were the inferior side on the pitch throughout most of the affair but came away with a 1-2 victory thanks to a second-half comeback created by Lorenzo Pellegrini and Roger Ibanez. Nevertheless, the tie is all but over as De Godenzonen are well capable of turning things around in the return game scheduled for this Thursday at Stadio OIimpico.

Both managers mixed up their squads in the weekend’s domestic league matches. Both teams snatched narrow 1-0 victories over Bologna and RKC Waalwijk respectively. It seems that La Lupa had already lost the battle for the top-four finish in Serie A as they are seven points short of Atalanta in fourth. Europa League thus seems to be their only way to the elite continental competition next season. Ajax, on the other side, have all but secured the new Eredivisie title.

Roma vs Ajax Head-to-head

  • This will be the fourth head to head meeting between the two outfits.
  • The H2H score is now all tied at a win, a draw, and a defeat for each of the teams.
  • Interestingly, both teams scored in each of the three head to heads affairs.

Roma vs Ajax Prediction

Ajax should have really won the first leg. They had a lead thanks to a great goal from Davy Klaasen, while Dusan Tadic missed a penalty to make it 2-0. Erik ten Hag’s troops had nine shots on target but scored just one goal on the occasion. Roma are by no means a strong defensive team and we can’t see them keeping De Godenzonen at bay once again. They shipped two goals to Napoli and Sassuolo each before the mentioned first leg in Amsterdam.

Ajax bagged five goals in two wins over Young Boys in the last 16 round. They proved their strength by reaching the latest stages of the UEFA Champions League in recent years. We see them as a more quality side than the Romans and the away win is our top betting suggestion at the odds of 2.35. You can hardly make a mistake backing goals here as the second pick is Over 2.5 goals FT at the 1.53 odds.

Roma vs Ajax Bet Tips

  • Ajax to win @ 2.35
  • Over 2.5 goals FT @ 1.53.
