River Plate vs The Strongest
CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores
Date: 28 June 2023, Wednesday
Kick-off at 01:00 UK / 02:00 CET
Venue: Estadio Mas Monumental (Buenos Aires).
River Plate will be looking to confirm their place in the knockout phase of the 2023 Copa Libertadores campaign on Tuesday evening in the home fixture against direct rivals The Strongest.
Los Millonarios got off to a slow start to the elite continental competition campaign but managed to fix things up with a 2-0 victory over group leaders Fluminense earlier this month in Gameweek 5.
River are now level on points with Sporting Cristal in the second place of Group D standings with a better goal difference (more goals scored) and one point above The Strongest in the last position.
Martin Demichelis’ troops need a victory on Tuesday to stay in the competition regardless of what occurs in the other game in this group.
The hosts will come into this in much higher spirits than their counterparts. They eased past Instituto 3-1 at the weekend to go ten points clear at the top of the LIga Profesional standings after 21 rounds.
It was the fourth win on the spin for River Plate across competitions. They have scored at least two goals in four of the last five outings.
The story is completely different with The Stringest who have just conceded six goals in a demolishing 6-3 defeat at the hands of direct title rivals in Bolivia, Nacional Potosi (a 6-3 loss).
The Strongest have shipped six goals at the weekend in Bolivian top flight. They also have a dreadful away record in Copa Libertadores with 14 defeats and 2 draws in the previous 16 matches on the road in this competition.
We will back River Plate to win both halves at the 1.90 odds as the main pick while you can alternatively take the hosts to win by three or more goals difference at the 2.00 odds.
