Rennes are from the French Ligue 1, one of the top-five leagues in Europe. Meanwhile Rosenborg are from the Norwegian Eliteserien – which is placed outside the top-20 domestic competitions by UEFA. Surely the French contingent are the favorites here.
They had managed a sixth-place finish the last season in the Ligue 1, and had scored a total of 52 goals in the process. They had also lost just 12 times all through this stretch, and had faced intense competition in order to secure the final European spot.
And at the end of the campaign, they ended up with a one-point lead over their closest competitors, and this gives them enormous confidence.
On top of that, they are also hopeful of a victory this Thursday, as they are pitted against a team from a weaker league.
Rosenborg could manage just a fourth-place finish in the Eliteserien, and they were winless in 15 of their total 30 games in the tournament.
By the looks of things, expect a convincing win for Rennes at the Roazhon Park.
Rennes were unbeaten in 13 of their past 17 overall fixtures, and they are also on a seven-game unbeaten streak at home. Note that five of these appearances at home were wins, and they had kept clean sheets in four of these.
On the other hand, their counterparts are from a far inferior league, and they are not used to the likes of opponents of this quality. With a spot in the Conference League at stake, expect Rennes to deliver a superb performance – and even more so since they are at home.
