Peter Green - August 4, 2019
Red Star Belgrade vs FC Copenhagen
Champions League Qualification
Date: Tuesday, 6 August 2019
Kick-off at 19:45 UK / 20:45 CET
Venue: Stadion Rajko Mitić (Belgrade).
Red Star Belgrade were saved by the two-goal advantage that they had secured in the first leg of their tie with HJK Helsinki, as the return leg last week saw them admit defeat by a 2-1 scoreline at the end of the ninety minutes.
The loss brought their five-match unbeaten run to a halt, and so the squad will be looking towards their clash on Tuesday with the Danish outfit to bounce back to winning ways.
FC Copenhagen edged it past their foes TNS in their last match-up to secure their spot in the semi-finals. The visitors have also been faring well in the new season and have collected maximum points from their domestic games so far.
However, the chances of a win for FC Copenhagen is looking less than bleak, as the hosts, who have home advantage as well at hand, will be keen on avoiding back to back defeats at all costs.
Although their last tie ended in a disappointing loss, it has to be mentioned that the home team have been a force to reckon with, on home soil.
The squad are on a four-match winning streak at this venue, three of which have seen the hosts win with a clean sheet intact.
The visitors have not been consistent in their last five outings and have failed to pick up the win twice in those games. Additionally, two of the wins that they did secure came against fairly mediocre sides.
With that in mind, the maiden clash between the two teams is more than likely to be a tight clash, with Red Star certain to come out on top by not more than a slender margin.
Both the sides have kept a clean sheet in their last two match-ups, and have featured less than 2.5 goals on the scorecards. Given their recent defensive records, we can rule out any chances of a goal-scoring spree unfolding on either end this week.
