Steffen Schmidt - August 29, 2023
Qarabag vs Olimpija Ljubljana
UEFA Europa League Qualification
Date: 31 August 2023, Thursday
Kick-off at 17:00 UK / 18:00 CET
Venue: Tofiq Behramov adina Respublika stadionu (Baku).
Kevin Medina and Leandro Andrade fired Qarabag to a massive two-goal advantage in a double-header against Slovenian champions Olimpija Ljubljana seven days ago on the road.
The two first-half goals saw the Azerbaijani outfit getting control of the tie as they now only need to finish the job on Thursday afternoon in the second leg on the home patch in Baku.
Qarabag are big favorites ahead of the reverse fixture, especially after Olimpija’s another dreadful defensive display in the weekend’s 1. SNL derby against Celje.
The team led by Portuguese manager Joao Henriques suffered a 2-4 defeat on the home ground on Sunday.
Olimpija have conceded four goals in each of the previous two domestic league outings. They have shipped ten goals in total in the previous three games in all competitions.
The visitors are now third in the 1. SNL standings with three wins and two defeats in five outings with eleven goals conceded in the process.
Qarabag should go into this in much higher spirits despite having their five-win streak broken at the weekend with a disappointing home stalemate to Kapaz (1-1) in the fourth round of the Azerbaijani Premyer Liqa.
The quality is on Qarabag’s side. They are playing in front of the home fans and without any kind of pressure after winning the first leg 2-0 on Slovenian soil. We can hardly have any option but the home win at the odds of 1.66.
Since Olimpija Ljubljana have not scored a single goal in three H2H clashes against Qarabag, we will also back the hosts to keep a clean sheet on Thursday at the 2.25 odds.
