Aron Wright - April 16, 2021
PSG vs Saint-Etienne
France – Ligue 1
Date: Sunday, 18 April 2021
Kick-off at 12:00 UK/ 13:00 CET
Venue: Parc des Princes.
The Parisians are in danger of missing out on the French league title this season. As of now, they are placed second in the table, and are trailing three points below toppers Lille.
With just six match-days remaining, and with the packed schedule of the UCL, the defending champions do not have the luxury to drop points. If they have any hope of retaining their crown, they have to win this weekend.
It helps that Kylian Mbappe has been in terrifying form, and with the likes of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo etc coming short this season, it’s the youngster’s chance to establish himself as the best in the world.
Meanwhile, Les Verts are placed 13th in the table, and are trailing 13 points below the final European spot. With just 18 points left to play for, it’s extremely unlikely that they will make it to the top tier this campaign.
This reality has obviously dulled their motivation. And most importantly, they have a poor h2h record against this foe over the years, and have conceded in plenty in the process.
For the reasons, expect PSG to emerge victorious this weekend at their home.
The Parisians recorded a 1-4 win on the road the last match-day, against Strasbourg. In the meantime, Claude Puel’s men registered a 4-1 win at home against Bordeaux.
Going on, Les Verts were winless in 23 of their previous 31 overall games, and in the process they had even gone on a six-match losing run. Note that they have also won just six times on the road since February of 2020.
On the other hand, their counterparts have been the best in France for over the past decade, and they also have on their payrolls two of the best five players in the world – a deadly combination.
They also do have a superb h2h record against this foe over the years.
Taking into account these observations, expect PSG to post the three points on the board in style.
