Peter Green - July 30, 2019
Progres Niederkorn vs Rangers
Europa League Qualification
Date: Thursday, 1 August 2019
Kick-off at 18:30 UK/ 19:30 CET
Venue: Stade Josy Barthel (Luxembourg).
Rangers had a great home leg the last day, and they have already a foot in the next round. Despite missing a penalty, the team managed a 2-0 win and thus denied the visiting contingent a chance to record an away goal too.
Now, with their in-form squad, the team could even afford to lose 3-1 and still move forward, which puts Progres under immense pressure.
Unlike many of the Europa League Qualifiers, these two have actually taken on each other before the first leg. The two matches were part of the 2017 EL Qualifiers, and then Rangers had failed to progress though.
Rangers are clearly the team in better form. They are unbeaten in their last seven matches and won six of them. Going on, they remained invincible in 13 of their last 14 and won 12 of these fixtures. On the road, the squad was again unbeaten in 12 of their last 15 trips and scored three or more goals in three of their last four away ties.
Meanwhile, Progres lost three of their last four matches and conceded two or more goals in all three. They also were winless in four of their eight home ties.
Most importantly, the hosts are lagging behind by two goals, and need at least three this Thursday, and that too without conceding. Suffice it to say, they really do stand just a negligible chance to take part in the next round of the competition.
