Liverpool vs LASK Prediction & Match Preview

Liverpool complicated things in their UEFA Europa League group with an unexpected 2-3 defeat away at Toulouse in the previous round.

The Reds are still at the top of the section but now only two points above Toulouse and they’ll need a win on Thursday evening in the home fixture with the rock-bottomed LASK to stay at the top ahead of the final round.

Jurgen Klopp’s men are enormous favorites against LASK. The bookies have them at 1.10 to get the win.

Nevertheless, it is hard to find much value there knowing that Klopp will most likely rotate his starting XI once again, much like he did three weeks ago in France.

He left the likes of Mohamed Salah, Dominik Szoboszlai, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Darwin Nunez on the bench on the occasion and it resulted in a defeat.

Liverpool had a tough clash against Manchester City last weekend in the Premier League and they face Fulham next on Sunday at the Anfield as well, to start a run of three matches in the division within six days.

LASK, on the other side, managed their first win of the campaign, beating Belgian Union Saint-Gilloise 3-0 at home in the previous round.

They still sit at the foot of the group table after losing the inaugural three matches and conceding six goals in the process.

The team led by Austrian manager Thomas Sageder hold the third place in the Austrian Bundesliga standings and they’ll go into this off the back of a narrow 1-0 home win over division strugglers WSF Tirol.

Liverpool celebrated an easy 3-1 win when these two teams met each other on the Austrian soil in September this year. This will be their second H2H encounter.

The Verdict

The gulf in quality is clear but Liverpool will most likely play this match with a mixed lineup which adds the value to the 1.90 odds offered for LASK not to lose by more than two goals difference on Thursday.

We will take the same odds for the Under 3.5 goals FT bet, expecting the visitors to park the bus and avoid a potential catastrophe on the back of a result against the Belgians in the previous round.
