Portugal vs Luxembourg
World Cup Qualification – Europe
Date: Tuesday, 12 October 2021
Kick-off at 19:45 UK / 20:45 CET
Venue: Estadio Do Algarve.
Portugal have been scoring goals for fun against weaker rivals lately. Luxembourg may have improved their displays of late (wins over Azerbaijan and the Republic of Ireland in this term).
But the visitors are still minnows compared to Portugal and a commanding home win has to be the way to go from the betting perspective.
Portugal continue their bid for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar on Tuesday evening when they play host to Luxembourg at Estadio Do Algarve.
Serbia’s victory over Luxembourg at the weekend keeps the pressure on Portugal who would drop down to the second place in Group A with a potential defeat here.
Fernando Santos’ men have won four and drawn one of the opening five games in the campaign, scoring 11 goals in the process.
They played a friendly against Qatar on Saturday as Cristiano Ronaldo, Jose Fonte, and Andre Silva scored goals in a commanding 3-0 victory.
Portugal have bagged three goals in each of the last three victories. The opposition did come in the likes of Qatar (twice) and Azerbaijan, but we can hardly consider Luxembourg as a much stronger rival either.
Luxembourg did offer a strong resistance against new group leaders Serbia on Saturday, but they eventually conceded the only goal of the game midway through the second half.
They have not done much to threaten the Serbians up front on the occasion. The team led by Luc Holtz still hold the third position in the group standings with two wins in five qualifiers.
