Portugal vs Israel
International – Friendlies
Date: Wednesday, 9 June 2021
Kick-off at 18:45 UK/ 19:45 CET
Venue: Estádio José Alvalade.
Portugal are the defending Euro champions, as well as the reigning Nations League champions. This is their last match-up before the commencement of Euros 2021, and expect them to absolutely dominate the comparatively weaker Israel team.
Portugal are ranked fifth in the world at the moment, and they are included in possibly the toughest group in the upcoming Euros. They need to build some urgent momentum.
They were obviously part of League A in the Nations League, and narrowly missed out on a spot to the semis, as they finished second in the group under France.
Still, they did score the most number of goals, and had conceded the least. They also had lost just once – and the defeat had come against world champions France.
They secured an entry into the Euros with a second-place finish in Group B in the Qualifiers, and had lost just once all through the campaign. Note that they had once again scored the most number of goals in the group.
Meanwhile, Israel are ranked 85th in the world, and were a part of League B in the UNL. This time around, they had narrowly avoided relegation to League C.
Also, they were placed second to last in the Group G table in the Qualifiers, and had conceded the second-most number of goals in the process.
By the looks of things, expect a Portuguese win this Wednesday.
Portugal have lost just four times in their last fifty games, which spans a time period of four years. And three of these defeats had come against France, Netherlands, and Uruguay – some of the very best teams in the world.
Do also note that they had won eight of their past ten home appearances, and they had scored three or more goals in five of the preceding eight fixtures.
On the other hand, their counterparts were winless in 13 of their past 18 overall match-ups, and they have a total of four wins on the road in the past four-year period.
Taking into account these observations, expect a thumping Portugal win this Wednesday.
