Peter Green - October 22, 2019
FC Porto vs Rangers
Europa League
Date: Thursday, 24 October 2019
Kick-off at 17:55 UK / 18:55 CET
Venue: Estádio do Dragão (Porto).
With all four teams level on points in the table, FC Porto will have to settle for nothing less than the win if they are to climb up the ladder this week.
Sergio Conceicao’s men failed to record back to back wins in Group G after Feyenoord pulled off a shock 2-0 victory in their last clash on the road. Despite registering four attempts on target in that latter matchup, the hosts were far from clinical in each of their efforts and ultimately returned home empty-handed.
Nevertheless, Porto have been a force to reckon with, in the comforts of their home. The squad have not been at the losing end in any of their last five games here. It is also worth mentioning that the Portuguese outfit have admitted defeat just thrice at home since the start of this year.
Steven Gerrard’s side also have just one win to boast in the table at the moment. Their most recent European clash saw them lose to Young Boys by a 2-1 scorecard. While their last fixture in the Scottish Premiership, against Hearts, ended in a 1-1 draw.
Furthermore, the visitors have not been at their best on the road this season. The away side have emerged victoriously just once in their last three outings in all competitions. Not to mention just thrice in their previous six.
Taking into account that the away side failed to register a win in their last visit to this venue as well, count on FC Porto to secure all three points without fail.
Additionally, Rangers have found the back of the net in each of their previous five outings, irrespective of the result, and have racked up eight goals to their tally. The hosts, on the other hand, have not kept a clean sheet in their Europa campaign and have conceded three goals from their two games so far.
Their last head to head clash here also featured goals down each. Hence, expect both teams to have their names on the scoresheet by the end of the ninety minutes.
