Philadelphia Union vs Tijuana
Leagues Cup
Date: 23 July 2023, Sunday
Kick-off at 01:00 UK / 02:00 CET
Venue: Subaru Park (Chester).
Philadelphia Union begin their 2023 Leagues Cup campaign with the home fixture against Mexican side Tijuana on Saturday evening at Subaru Park.
Zolos are in a very tough group with two Liga MX sides and they’ll be hoping to pick up a positive result this weekend ahead of the clash against Queretaro in four days.
Jim Curtin’s troops will come into this in high spirits following back-to-back wins over Nashville SC and New York City.
They have climbed to the third place in the Eastern Conference table as a consequence. Nevertheless, it is worth noting that the Union only managed to register three attempts on target seven days ago against NYC.
It was not the brightest of the wins for Curtin’s men who should have a tougher job this time around against Tijuana.
The visitors enter this encouraged with the maiden win of the 2023/24 Liga MX campaign. They dispatched Cruz Azul 2-1 at home in the third round of the Apertura with an own-goal winner in the second minute of stoppage time.
One man well worth paying attention at is Carlos Gonzalez who has bagged three of his team’s five goals in the new season.
Also, it is worth noting that each of Tijuana’s three league clashes in the new Apertura campaign has seen goals at both ends.
It is very interesting to see Philadelphia Union as the 1.80 favorites to win here. Yes, the hosts have been in great form in the league of late and they own one of the most talented squads in the MLS with the likes of Julian Carranza and Daniel Gazdag leading the line.
However, we must not forget that Liga MX teams possess great quality as well. Tijuana are very much capable of beating any MLS outfit on any day and they will enter the tie in high spirits after the win over Cruz Azul. We will back Tijuana to win or draw as the double chance bet at the 1.95 odds while we also fancy the attractive 3.60 odds for Carlos Gonzalez to score anytime for the visitors.
