Peter Green - February 25, 2019
Paris Saint-Germain vs Dijon
France – Coupe de France
Date: Tuesday, 26th February 2019
Kick-off at 20.10 UK/ 21.10 CET
Venue: Parc des Princes (Paris).
Just why bother? PSG should be given a direct entry into the final of domestic cups, and other teams should fight it amongst themselves to get the chance to lose against the Parisians in the final. On top of all the advantages they already have, the team is at home for this fixture. As Walter White would say – “it’s some tepid, off-brand generic cola vs Classic Coke”.
PSG is already a four-time defending champion in this competition, and they will surely be gunning for five. Whereas their opponents are struggling to find foot even in the relegation zone of the French League. With just twelve rounds remaining in the league season, the team is a frontrunner to be delivered to Ligue 2 in a neat package, while PSG players will already be working on their award speeches for when they get their hands on the Ligue 1 title.
As mentioned earlier, Paris is the current Ligue 1 topper, and potential champions, while their counterparts are sure-shots to get the boot to Ligue 2. In addition, PSG has the home advantage as well.
They have found the back of the net in their last 43 matches in a row and won 14 of their last 16 games. At home, they won 19 of their last 21 fixtures and registered two or more goals in five of their last six tries. The combined scoreline for their last six home ties is 24-2.
Meanwhile, Dijon was winless in 22 of their last 27 games on the road, and importantly, except for a win in 2011, has lost all of their encounters against Paris. Even better, they have a perfect losing record at the Parc des Princes, and unbelievably, has not scored a single goal at this venue.
The last time these two met at Paris’s home, the hosts recorded a win of 8-0. It goes without saying that Thomas Tuchel’s men are the right-on favorites for this game. Count on them to deliver a huge win this Tuesday.
