Panama vs United States Prediction & Match Preview

Steffen Schmidt - October 8, 2021

Panama vs United States
World Cup Qualification – CONCACAF
Date: Sunday, 10 October 2021
Kick-off at 23:00 UK / 00:00 CET
Venue: Estadio Rommel Fernandez Gutierrez.

Snatching the spoils from Panama City will be anything but an easy task for the US team. The hosts have been very tough to break down in September and we expect them to continue their fine defensive showings here against the United States who will once again be without their two main stars. The low-scoring draw is something we are expecting to see here.

Panama vs United States Head-to-head

  • The United States celebrated a demolishing 6-2 victory in the previous clash against Panama (a friendly in November last year).
  • The USMNT will go into this on the back of four subsequent wins over Panama, including a 1-0 victory at the 2019 Gold Cup.
  • Both teams were on target just once in the last four head to head affairs.
  • Panama are winless in the last 14 matches against the United States.

Key Stats for Betting

  • Panama shipped only one goal in three World Cup qualifiers in September despite playing Costa Rica and Mexico in the process.
  • They drew in both of their World Cup qualifiers on the home soil so far (0-0 to Costa Rica and 1-1 to Mexico).
  • The United States also drew in two of their opening three qualifiers (0-0 at El Salvador and 1-1 to Canada).
  • Gregg Berhalter will be without his main two stars Giovanni Reyna and Christian Pulisic here.

Panama vs United States Predictions & Analysis

Panama and the United States take on each other in a super-important six-pointer in the battle for the top-three finish in the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifications on Sunday evening in Panama City.

Both teams went through the September set of three qualifiers unbeaten.

While the USMNT recorded a couple of disappointing draws to the likes of El Salvador and Canada in the opening two games, Panama’s five points from three matches can be regarded as success given they’ve played the likes of Costa Rica and Mexico in the process.

Panama have shown some stern defensive performances in September, allowing just one goal in three games. It came in a 1-1 home draw to Mexico on Gameweek No 3 last mnoth.

We thus don’t quite see a pleasant evening for the American forwards here, especially since coach Gregg Berhalter still can’t count on the services of his two main stars Giovanni Reyna and Christian Pulisic.

Berhalter is under a huge pressure following a poor start to the qualifying campaign and questionable squad selection for the opening two fixtures.

He was on the brink of an abyss in the third round against Honduras, but a switch from 3-4-3 to a 4-3-3 formation made a massive difference in the second half as the USMNT bagged four unanswered goals after the break to snatch their maiden win of the campaign.
