Nurnberg will have great ambitions for this season. They were relegated from the top division in 2018-19, after falling short by a mammoth 13 points. It really was no wonder that they got the boot, as, throughout the campaign, they were the odds-on favorite to get the proverbial sack.
Hamburger, meanwhile, was a major player in the competition and gave an incredible chase to get qualified for the promotional playoffs, only to come behind by just a single point. In fact, they had finished fourth in the table, and both the second and third spots were taken by teams with just a single point in excess.
The squad will be determined to avoid such a heartbreak this time around.
Nurnberg is facing a massive shortage of confidence, and with good reason too. They finished dead-last in the Bundesliga last season and got relegated. As such, they will be facing severe losses in revenue, sponsorship, fan-following, and exposure. Not a good setting to be in for any squad.
On the other hand, HSV will be desperate to get back on the pitch and take what they believe is theirs – a ticket to the top division. Last time they came agonizingly close to it and will stop at nothing in this campaign.
Moreover, h2h encounters clearly pick a favorite. Nurnberg lost the last three battles, and to a combined scorecard of 1-8. Importantly, 15 of the last 18 wins went to Hamburger, and the last time these two clashed at this venue, the result was a 0-5 victory for the visitors.
