Steffen Schmidt - July 21, 2023
New York Red Bulls vs New England
Leagues Cup
Date: 23 July 2023, Sunday
Kick-off at 00:30 UK / 01:30 CET
Venue: Red Bull Arena (Harrison).
New York Red Bulls host New England Revolution at the start of their 2023 Leagues Cup campaign on Saturday evening at Red Bull Arena.
The hosts have not been in the best form of late, losing three of the last four MLS affairs to drop out of the top nine in the Eastern Conference standings.
The Red Bulls Metro are now four points shy of D.C. United in the final play-in spot and they desperately need to turn a corner in the decisive games of the regular season when MLS restores to action in a month time.
Head coach Troy Lesesne particularly needs to work on improving the team’s defensive showings.
The Red Bulls Metro shipped five goals in the last two matches against Cincinnati and Real Salt Lake.
We’ve seen the Over 2.5 goals FT & Both Teams To Score pick landing in each of the last four outings they played in the MLS.
Improving the poor defensive record will represent quite a challenge for the hosts this Saturday in particular because they are about to face one of the deadliest and most talented attacking lines in North America here.
New England are flying high this year. They are second on the East with 42 goals scored in 23 matches.
The Revs bagged six goals in the last two wins over Atlanta United and D.C United. They do offer much better displays at home than on the road but we still can’t agree at all with the bookmakers who consider them underdogs this weekend.
The value is fantastic with the Over 2.5 goals FT & Both Teams To Score pick at the attractive 2.30 odds knowing that both teams have been much better offensively than defensively so far in the season.
Also, the Revs will enter the tie in much higher spirits which is why we will alternatively back the away win or draw double chance bet at the 1.90 odds.
