A lot has changed since Inter Miami last played an MLS game. In the meantime, the rock-bottomed team of the Eastern Conference standings have picked up eight straight wins to win prestigious Leagues Cup and reach the US Open Cup final with a late comeback win on penalties against Cincinnati on Wednesday night.
David Beckham’s team now return to the MLS duties, aiming to climb the Eastern Conference table on the back of phenomenal successes in the last month.
Obviously, Lionel Messi was the main catalyst to these successes as he found the back of the net in all seven Leagues Cup matches.
The Argentinean superstar also delivered two assists on Wednesday night to help his team see off the current MLS leaders Cincinnati in the US Open Cup semifinal.
Inter Miami will travel to Harrison, New Jersey, to battle conference rivals New York Red Bulls in an important MLS tie on Saturday night.
The Red Bulls are 11th in the Eastern Conference table at the moment, sitting 11 points above Inter Miami and three points below Chicago Fire in the play-in zone.
Inter Miami do have at least two games in hand on the rest of the rivals in the conference and a winning thread may easily get them in the playoffs race.
New York Red Bulls have been very difficult to break down in recent weeks. They have allowed just one goal in the last five outings across competitions, limiting DC United to zero shots on target last weekend in the MLS affair.
Inter Miami are still the favorites with Lionel Messi in the roster but we do fancy the Under 2.5 goals FT pick at the odds of 2.15 knowing the hosts have improved their defensive performances drastically in the recent period.
