Netherlands vs Belarus
Europe – Euro Qualifiers
Date: Thursday, 21st March 2019
Kick-off at 19.45 UK/ 20.45 CET
Venue: De Kuip (Rotterdam).
The once magnificent Dutch football faced a steep decline in the last few years, but boy! Have they come back in style! With some awe-inspiring talents like Virgil Van Dijk, Mathijs de Ligt, Frenkie de Jong etc we are probably witnessing the ascension of Netherlands to the supreme positions of the footballing world.
Their Nations League campaign was really something from a fairy tale. A team which had failed to qualify for the World Cup was pitted with the current, as well as previous world champions. And still, the Dutch managed to top the group and qualified for the Finals.
Belarus had a great campaign in the competition too. But something tells me, that trading punches against the likes of Moldova, San Marino etc is going to be different from taking on Netherlands, and that too on the road.
This is a tie massively in favor of the Dutch. They are currently one of the best teams in the world and had managed to thwart the challenges of both France and Germany in their group stage combats. On the other hand, Belarus is just a minnow, who tried their luck in League D of the Nations League.
Add to this, that Netherlands is at home.
Moreover, the Dutch recorded six wins in the last seven h2h meetings and scored two or more goals in five of the last six. Importantly, Holland has a 100% winning record at home against this opponent.
Netherlands is trying to climb to the throne they so greatly deserve, and they will surely want to begin in style. Expect them to take the three points this Thursday.
With titans like Van Dijk, quite possibly the best defender in the world right now, and with de Ligt to assist him, the hosts should easily keep a clean sheet. Add Jasper Cilessen to the mix, and it’s just game over for the Belarus frontline. Also, the visitors managed just a single goal in their last four away h2h games.
