Nashville and New York City will raise the curtain on the 2023 MLS season with the clash on Saturday afternoon at GEODIS Park.
The hosts return to the Eastern Conference after spending last year on the West, following this season’s addition of St. Louis to the league.
Nashville are a relatively young team entering only their fourth season in the elite tier of American football.
Nevertheless, they have managed to make it to the playoffs in each of the last three seasons. They enter the new campaign with high ambitions and they will be the favorites to get the first three-pointer of the season against the likes of New York City on Saturday.
The key thing for Nashville’s fans is the presence of the league’s Golden Boot winner form the last season, Hany Mukhtar.
New York City, on the other side, made more changes to their roster in between the two campaigns, signing the likes of Matt Freese, Braian Cufre, and Mitja Ilenic among others.
Head coach Nick Cushing will probably need some time to bed in the new arrivals as New York City did not shine in the recent friendlies. They played a 3-3 draw to St. Louis City before falling 0-1 to Portland Timbers in the last two exhibition outings.
Nashville bagged six goals past Cincinnati in their final preseason warm-up. They will be super-motivated to get the three-pointer on board in the inaugural home game of the season.
