Punjab Kings will enter this crucial fixture following a disappointing defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the first round of qualifiers. They managed to post a below-par target of just 101 runs while batting first, which Bangalore chased down easily in only 10 overs with eight wickets in hand. This clash marks Punjab’s final opportunity to stay in the race for the IPL 2025 title.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians also approach their last chance to make it to the finals, but they come in high spirits after a strong win over Gujarat Titans. MI secured a solid 20-run victory and will aim to repeat that performance against Punjab Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday.
The head-to-head record between Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings is among the most balanced in IPL history. As of the 2025 season, the two teams have clashed 33 times, with Mumbai winning 17 matches and Punjab taking 16 victories.

Jasprit Bumrah (MI): Bumrah is in top bowling form, having picked up 14 wickets in his last seven matches. His key wicket of Washington Sundar helped MI seal their win over GT.
Shreyas Iyer (PBKS): Despite a quiet outing against RCB, Iyer has been consistent with the bat in recent games. He remained unbeaten with 26 off 16 in the last clash against MI and is expected to step up again.
Mumbai Indians looked dominant in their last eliminator match, with both batters and bowlers performing impressively. On the other hand, Punjab Kings suffered a collective failure against RCB, with both departments underperforming.
However, Punjab is known to bounce back strongly after defeats. They still have quality players in both the batting and bowling line-ups who can turn the match around.
Mumbai’s bowling attack has been their biggest strength. At least one MI bowler has taken 2+ wickets in each of their last seven matches, including multiple three-wicket hauls.
Iyer may have missed out against RCB, but he has scored 25+ in four of his last five matches, including a crucial 26* against MI.
