Steffen Schmidt - June 10, 2023
Morocco vs Cape Verde
International Friendlies
Date: 12 June 2023, Monday
Kick-off at 20:00 UK / 21:00 CET
Venue: Stade Prince Moulay Abdallah (Rabat).
Morocco and Cape Verde will test each other before important games in the African Cup of Nations qualifications on Monday evening in Rabat.
The Moroccans will be looking to translate their fine form from March friendlies when they managed a win and a draw in the clashes against South American sides Peru and Brazil.
The Atlas Lions have thus continued their fine momentum gained at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar where they became the first-ever African team to reach the semifinal of the competition.
Head coach Walid Regragui is doing a great job with this group of players. He has called up a very strong squad for the upcoming AFCON qualifier against South Africa on Saturday.
We will thus likely see the likes of Youssef En-Nesyri, Sofiane Boufal, Hakim Ziyech, Sofyan Amrabat, Achraf Hakimi, Nayef Agzuerd, and company in action for at least some portion of the game on Monday.
Cape Verde will represent a quality test for the Atlas Lions. They have been very tough to break down in the last several years and they have shown quality on the biggest stage in African football of late.
The team led by manager Bubista head into this unbeaten in four straight outings, a run that includes a 0-1 win over Eswatini in the AFCON Qualifications in March.
Cape Verde traditionally park the bus against stronger African teams and this is exactly the approach we are expecting from them on Monday against the high-flying Atlas Lions. None of four matches Cape Verde played at the 2022 African Cup of Nations saw three or more goals scored.
Our main pick here will be Under 2.5 goals FT at the 1.72 odds. We do not expect a walkthrough for Morocco here which is why we will rather take the draw at the half time as an alternative pick at the 2.15 odds.
