Montenegro vs Israel
International – Friendlies
Date: Saturday, 5 June 2021
Kick-off at 19:45 UK/ 20:45 CET
Venue: Podgorica City Stadium.
Montenegro as well as Israel are two of the weaker teams in Europe. Both are going through inconsistent stretches, and are conceding goals in huge numbers. Likely, expect a goal-fest this weekend at the Podgorica City Stadium.
Montenegro are ranked 64th in the world, and were a part of League C in the Nations League. In the European Qualifiers, they had a campaign to forget.
The team finished dead last in a table of five, and went winless all through the campaign. They had scored a total of just three goals in the tournament, and conceded a total of 22 goals in return, thus missing out on a ticket to continental extravaganza.
Meanwhile, Israel are ranked 85th in the world, and were a part of League B in the UNL. They had narrowly missed out on relegation, as they finished second to last in the table.
They are going through a struggling stretch at the moment, and especially on the road. On top of that, they had finished second to last in Group G in the Euro Qualifiers.
They also had a total of one win on the road in the campaign, and it had come against the dead-last placed Latvia.
With either team not participating in the Euros, they have no motivation to deliver a superb performance.
And with both teams suffering defensive issues, expect a high-scoring affair this weekend.
Montenegro were winless in 24 of their preceding 34 overall fixtures, and they have won just six times at home in the past four-year period. In fact, their rare victories had come against some of the worst teams in the world.
On the other hand, their counterparts were winless in 13 of their past 17 overall match-ups, and they have a total of six wins on the road in the past seven-year period. In the process, they had gone through two separate three-game losing runs, and a four-match losing streak.
Note that their latest clean sheet away from home had come in 2019, and before that in 2017.
Taking into account these observations, expect either team to find the back of the net this Saturday at the Podgorica City Stadium. Expect goals in plenty.
