Monaco vs Sparta Prague
UEFA Champions Third qualifying round
Date: Tuesday, 10 August 2021
Kick-off at 19:00 UK/ 20:00 CET
Venue: Stade Louis II (Monaco).
Monaco takes on Sparta Prague in the second leg of the Champions League qualifier and they are in a perfect position to advance to the next round with a 2-goal lead in hand.
Youngster Aurelien Tchouameni and Kevin Volland were on target at Prague handing Niko Kovac’s men a substantial lead to defend at the Stade Louis II.
Sparta rarely had a chance, though they come close to score once with a clear-cut chance. All in all, it was a dominant performance by the Ligue 1 outfit, and they can look forward to finish off the job professionally in front of their home fans.
On the weekend, Monaco started their Ligue 1 campaign, and it was a disappointing 1-1 draw against Nantes.
Sparta on the other hand played a few games more than Monaco since starting off with a 1-2 defeat in the qualifier at Rapid Vienna. They overturned the loss with a 2-0 win at Prague 7 days later.
They also have a 100%-win record in the three Czech league games played so far, however Champions League double legged qualifiers are a different proportion.
Returning to the Europe’s elite competition after 5 years, the Czech giants rarely made it through the qualifiers. They have a poor record of 2 wins from the last 10 games, drew 3 and lost 5.
The 2-0 win by Monaco last Tuesday is their only head-to-head match against Sparts Prague.
Goals are plenty when Monaco plays at Stade Louis II and a massive 84% of their Ligue 1 games here saw over 2.5 goals last season. Meantime, Sparta recorded 3 or more goals in 70% of their away games last season.
All things considered, including the current form and squad strength analysis, a high scoring affair with Monaco to win in the end is on the cards.
