The highlight of this weekend’s Premier League matches may well be Liverpool’s Saturday evening trip to Tottenham, but it’s the six afternoon games that are likely to have the UK’s bookmakers feeling fearful.
That’s according to betting site comparator promotionalbonuscode.com who have taken a look at the teams and odds involved.
A spokesman for bookmakers.tv said, “Bookmakers are able to balance their books on most Saturdays as there are either very few Premier League 3pm kick offs or the matches involved are tricky to call, so there’s no consensus in the bets that are placed. However, this Saturday sees a perfect storm, with six matches – ideal for an acca – and each one has a clear odds-on favourite who are likely to carry the majority of bets. If all six favourites go on to win, we’ll be looking at multi-million pound losses across the industry.”
So who are teams that betting sites will want to slip up?
- Arsenal (vs Bournemouth) – Arsenal are yet to lose in the league this season, while opponents Bournemouth have recorded just three draws and three defeats from their opening six games, so an away win will be a popular pick.
- Everton (vs Luton) – Everton’s problems may be well documented but they secured a dominant win last time out at Brentford last time out, and will surely fancy themselves to make it back-to-back league wins with Dominic Calvert-Lewin now fit and firing. Luton have just one point to their name, secured at home to 10 man Wolves.
- Manchester Utd (vs Crystal Palace) – Man Utd are struggling to meet pre-season expectations but they still managed to grind out a win last time out, away to Burnley. United are always a popular team to include in an acca, and many will struggle to ignore them at home to Palace.
- Newcastle (vs Burnley) – Newcastle’s most recent league result is an 8-0 win at Sheffield United, so they’ll be hugely confident of picking up another three points at home to another newly promoted team in Burnley.
- West Ham (vs Sheffield Utd) – The Hammers have already disposed of Luton, Brighton and Chelsea this season, so taking on Sheffield Utd shouldn’t strike fear into them. Another 8-0 may be ambitious but a convincing victory is certainly possible.
- Manchester City (vs Wolves) – Manchester City have a 100% record in the league, and Wolves are unlikely to be the team to put an end to that run. It’s rare that punters have to add City to their 3pm accas, and they’ll be queuing round the blocks to do so this weekend.
Only time will tell whether the Premier League sixfold will be giving bookies nightmares for months to come, but it’s rare to find both Manchester teams and Arsenal all playing at 3pm on a Saturday in this day and age, so expect bookmakers to report carnage if the inevitably popular 10/1* sixfold comes in.
